A Faithful Place of Burial, Prayer, & Ongoing Remembrance
At Gate of Heaven Cemetery, we serve families and parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati by providing Catholic burial spaces rooted in the Church’s teachings on the dignity of the human person and the hope of the Resurrection.
Catholic cemeteries are not simply places of burial—they are sacred extensions of parish life, where prayer continues, the faithful are remembered, and families are accompanied through grief with the care of the Church, the people of God.
Are you an individual looking for guidance?
This page is intended for parishes, clergy, and ministry leaders who may be less familiar with Catholic cemetery ministry and how we support the pastoral care of families at the time of death.
Catholic Cemeteries Extend the Ministry of the Church
Catholic cemeteries are part of the Church’s mission of mercy. They continue the pastoral care of parishes beyond the funeral liturgy and into the life of remembrance.
A Catholic cemetery:
- Serves as a sanctuary of prayer for the faithful departed
- Supports the Church’s teaching on the resurrection of the body
- Provides continuity between parish life and burial
- Offers families a place to return, pray, and remember
In this way, burial becomes not an ending, but a continuation of the Church’s care for her people.
Supporting Parishes at the Time of Death
We work alongside parishes to ensure families experience a smooth and prayerful transition through the three Catholic Funeral Rites: the Vigil (Wake), the Funeral Mass, and the Rite of Committal. Our role is to coordinate the cemetery portion of these rites so clergy and parish staff can focus on sacramental and pastoral care.
This includes scheduling committal services, coordinating with funeral directors, preparing burial or interment sites, and ensuring Catholic burial practices are faithfully observed.
Chaplain Support for Parishes & Families
Gate of Heaven Cemetery proudly offers a dedicated Chaplain Pool, an invaluable resource for the pastors within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and families when called on.
Our dedicated chaplains are ready to step in to support our parish families and to assist our esteemed pastors during unforeseen moments, ensuring that a committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery proceeds seamlessly. This is at NO COST to the family or to the parish.
Faithful to Catholic Teaching
Catholic cemeteries uphold the Church’s teaching on the dignity of the human body and the hope of the Resurrection.
We provide burial and cremation interment options that reflect these teachings, including:
- In-ground Catholic burial in consecrated ground
- Columbaria and cremation interment options
- Permanent sacred places of remembrance
- Respectful handling of cremated remains in accordance with Church norms
This ensures that what is celebrated in the funeral liturgy continues faithfully in burial practice.
A Place of Ongoing Prayer & Pastoral Care
Catholic cemeteries are not only places of burial, but places of ongoing ministry. Long after the funeral, families continue to return for prayer and remembrance, visits to loved ones, memorial observances, and spiritual reflection and healing. We help ensure that parishioners remain connected to the Church through every stage of grief and remembrance.
