Veterans Day November 11, 2022 at Gate of Heaven

“Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.

This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.” https://www.military.com/veterans-day

Please make time to walk, drive, jog, ride your bike and pray throughout the 160 acres of Gate of Heaven Cemetery’s sacred ground on November 11, 12, 13. You will see over 6000 flags posted at the markings of over 6000 veterans interred at Gate of Heaven. Stop and read their names. Honor them. Share your gratitude for their service. Pray for them.

We are very blessed to have The Valor Group, who are Veterans, and family and friends of Veterans, that are employees of Cincinnati Bell, now Altafiber, that provide the flags and post them every year at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with respect and honor.

Please come and pay your respect and honor to those that served our country!

The cemetery gates are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the week. The flags will be posted for November 11 and pulled on November 14.

Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.
